4-14 Predictions

Happy weekend everyone!  I hope you all enjoy these two days off we have from work. I know I will as tonight I am going to the Mariner Athletic game.  First one of the year!  Alright prediction time.

Angels (Wilson) vs Yankees (Hughes)

C.J Wilson has been the lone bright spot for the Angels so far in 2012.  In his only start he went 8 innings and gave up 1 run.  Now he has the task of shutting down the Yankee lineup that is starting to find its groove.  Since being swept by Tampa Bay the Yankees have won 4 games in a row.  I think that winning streak comes to an end today as Wilson and the Angels take game 2 of this series.

Pick: Angels

Cubs (Volstad) vs Cardinals (Lynn)

The Cubs have broke out of their offensive doldrums the last 2 games, scoring 17 runs and winning both.  Now they face Lance Lynn who looked awfully good in his first start in 2012.  Lynn knows that if he wants to keep his job in the starting rotation he is going to have to pitch well as Chris Carpenter will be taking a spot in the rotation as soon as he is healthy.  Lynn will continue to pitch well today and the Cardinals will even the series.

Pick: Cardinals

Rangers (Darvish) vs Twins (Blackburn)

Yu Darvish makes his second start of the season and he hopes to get out of the first inning unscathed.  After giving up 4 runs against the Seattle Mariners in the first inning Darvish settled down and got the win.  He needs to improve his control but I think it was just nerves and he was over amped in his first MLB start.  I think he settles down today and the Rangers win.

Pick: Rangers.  This is my lock of the day.

Reds (Bailey) vs Nationals (Jackson)

The Nationals have won the last 2 games against the Reds in extra innings including a 2-1 win yesterday in 13.  Now they turn to pitching nomad Edwin Jackson to continue the hot start.  Washington is 6-2 for the first time since they were the Montreal Expos back in 2001.  I am going to predict that the Nationals don't get to 7-2 as I think Homer Bailey and the Reds win this game.

Pick: Reds

Mets (Niese) vs Phillies (Worley)

This is a matchup that Phillies fans have to like.  Niese struggles vs Philadelphia and Worley has had a lot of success against the Mets.  I haven't had much success picking against the Mets this year but I am going to do it again.  Gotta stick to your guns!! Phillies win.

Pick: Phillies

Rays (Hellickson) vs Red Sox (Buchholz)

Both of these pitchers have had success against the teams they will be facing today.  Hellickson went 2-0 against the Red Sox last year and Buchholz has a 1.81 ERA against Tampa Bay which happens to be his lowest against any team.  Runs will be at a premium and my prediction is that the bullpens will decide this game.  Since I am much more confident in the Rays bullpen I am going to go with Tampa Bay.

Pick: Rays

Orioles (Hammel) vs Blue Jays (Alvarez)

Jason Hammel and Henderson Alvarez both pitched well in their last starts.  Now they face each other in what looks to be another pitching duel.  Alvarez has good stuff but hasn't had much to show for it as he hasn't won since last August, a span of six starts.  Jason Hammel carried a no-hitter into the 8th inning of his Oriole debut and he will continue his hot start and the Orioles take this game and the series.

Pick: Orioles

Tigers (Wilk) vs White Sox (Floyd)

The Tigers look to get back in the win column as they send Adam Wilk out for his first major league start.  The White Sox counter with Gavin Floyd, who I just don't trust.  I am going to pick the Tigers here not because of the starting pitcher they are putting out, but because of the starting pitcher the White Sox have throwing.  I predict the Tigers get to Gavin early and win this game.

Pick: Tigers

Indians (Gomez) vs Royals (Sanchez)

Cleveland broke out of their offensive slump in a big way yesterday, scoring 7 runs in the first inning against the Royals and never seriously being threatened.  The Indians scored more in that inning alone then they did in all 5 games to start the season.  Jonathan Sanchez will make the Indians revert to their old ways as the Royals get back in the win column today.

Pick: Royals

Astros (Norris) vs Marlins (Zambrano)

Carlos Zambrano makes his debut in the new Marlins ballpark and it is against a team he very familiar with.  Being with the Cubs Zambrano faced the Astros quite a bit and had some success against them.  The Astros counter with Bud Norris, who had a quality start his last time out and might be the most consistent pitcher on this staff.  In a battle of consistency vs inconsistency I am going with Norris and the Astros to win this one.

Pick: Astros

Brewers (Marcum) vs Braves (Minor)

Shaun Marcum looks to get the Brewers back in track in Atlanta after Randy Wolf and Zack Greinke both got shelled the last 2 days.  Fortunately for the Brewers I think that he will be up to the challenge.  He has had success against the Braves in the past and will continue to do so today as the Brewers win.

Pick: Brewers

Diamondback (Colllmenter) vs Rockies (Chacin)

The Rockies offense has been feast or famine so far in the early going of the 2012 season.  They will either score a lot of runs and win or get completely shut down and lose.  I don't think Josh Collmenter will shut them down as he struggles on the road and especially at Coors Field.  The Rockies win here.

Pick: Rockies

Pirates (Morton) vs Giants (Zito)

On Monday Barry Zito pitched a shutout.  At Coors Field.  Let me say that again Barry Zito pitched a shutout at Coors Field. Now he is going against that is scored more than 2 runs only once so far this year.  He has to be salivating at the fact he gets to face this lineup.  I am happy for Zito and hope he uses that shutout as a springboard for a good 2012.  He will get win #2 tonight and will be well on his way.

Pick: Giants

Athletics (Milone) vs Mariners (Noesi)

These are 2 young pitchers who were involved in big trades this off season.  Milone was traded to the Athletics in the Gio Gonzales trade while Noesi came to Seattle as part of the Michael Pineda-Jesus Montero deal.  Milone pitched well in his first game for the Athletics while Noesi struggled.  The only reason why I am picking the Mariners is because I am going to the game and the Mariners have yet to lose the first game of the season I have been to since I moved to Seattle.

Pick: Mariners

Padres (Weiland) vs Dodgers (Lilly)

I am done picking the Padres against the Dodgers when they are playing this well.  That is all you need to know about this game.

Pick: Dodgers
