4-23 Predictions

We got 11 games scheduled for today, including a doubleheader with the Mets and the Giants.  On to the predictions!

Giants (Lincecum) vs Mets (Batista)          Game 1

Normally this would be a no-brainer.  Tim Lincecum against Miguel Batista.  But with the way that Lincecum is pitching and my luck so far with the Mets I am hesitating a little bit with this pick.  Hmmm... Who am I kidding it is Miguel Batista!! Giants win.

Pick: Giants

Giants (Bumgarner) vs Mets (Gee)           Game 2

This game is even easier for me to pick.  Madison Bumgarner has been pitching fantastically ever since he got his contract extension.  I expect that to continue today as the Giants will sweep the Mets in this doubleheader.  But again take it with a grain of salt because I am only 2-12 in picking Mets games this year.  Worst team for me to predict.

Pick: Giants

Rockies (Moyer) vs Pirates (Correia)

The ageless one is at it again.  In his first start since becoming the oldest person in baseball history Jamie Moyer gets to face the Pirates offense.  That is a pretty good reward for him. The Pirates offense still can't hit at all and now they get to face a pitcher that makes hitters look foolish, and have been doing that since before most of the hitters on the Pirates roster were born.  Rockies win.

Pick: Rockies

Yankees (Sabathia) vs Rangers (Holland)

The Rangers continue to mow through the other contenders of the American League, and now have set their sights on the New York Yankees.  After taking 2 from Boston and 2 out of 3 from Detroit it is time time for New York.  For the first time this year I am picking against C.C Sabathia, as I think the Rangers and Derek Holland will win today.

Pick: Rangers

Cardinals (Garcia) vs Cubs (Garza)

The Cardinals offense is hitting well but can't stay healthy, so it is a good thing they also have a dominant starting rotation.  With Lance Berkman going on the disabled list and John Jay joining him soon St Louis is going to need to rely on their pitching even more.  It is a good thing the pitchers are up for the challenge.  St. Louis will win today in the opener of the series against the Cubs.

Pick: Cardinals

Red Sox (Lester) vs Twins (Marquis)

Maybe playing the Minnesota Twins is exactly what the Red Sox need to get their season going in the right direction.  Jon Lester looks to get his first win of 2012 and stop a 5 game losing that the Red Sox are currently on.  I am confident that Boston will win this game and Lester will pitch well.  So confident that this game is my lock of the day.

Pick: Red Sox.  This is my lock of the day.

Astros (Harrell) vs Brewers (Greinke)

Milwaukee has won 17 straight games at the home field of the Houston Astros.  They try to make it 18 in a row with Zack Greinke starting for them.  This would be my lock of the day if it wasn't for Boston.  I like the Brewers to win comfortably in this one.

Pick: Brewers

Blue Jays (Morrow) vs Royals (Chen)

Kansas City currently has the worst streak in franchise history, with 9 straight losses at Kauffman Stadium on their record.  They look to avoid a third consecutive sweep by sending Bruce Chen to the mound.  The Blue Jays counter with Brandon Morrow as they look to get their first 4-game road sweep since 2003.  They will get it.

Pick: Blue Jays

Phillies (Kendrick) vs Diamondbacks (Miley)

This start was supposed to be Cliff Lee vs Daniel Hudson, but both pitchers have found their way to the disabled list so it is Kendrick and Miley.  Both pitchers have pitched well out of the bullpen for their respective teams, and now they have earned a spot start.  Both offenses are struggling with with injuries and ineptness, but I predict that the Diamondbacks will have just enough offense to win this game.

Pick: Diamondbacks

White Sox (Peavy) vs Athletics (Colon)

Both Jake Peavy and Bartolo Colon are coming off fantastic start to their 2012 campaigns.  5 years ago these were 2 of the best pitchers in all of baseball, so it is good to see them being successful again.  Jake Peavy is the more talented pitcher of the 2, but Colon just finds ways to win.  I think that his luck temporarily runs out as the White Sox continue their winning streak and take down Oakland today.

Pick: White Sox

Braves (Jurrjens) vs Dodgers (Capuano)

Both Atlanta and Los Angeles are hot out of the gate, although both lost yesterday.  Even though Matt Kemp is still white hot and the Dodgers are 6-0 at home, I like the Braves in the opener of this series.  I still don't trust Chris Capuano and I think the Braves take advantage of his mediocrity and win this game today.

Pick: Braves
