4-24 Predictions

All 30 teams are back in action today.  Had a good day yesterday and we need to keep the momentum going and gain some traction here.

Rockies (Moyer) vs Pirates (Correia)

I am glad I had an extra day to think about this game.  I think that Kevin Correia is an underrated pitcher who pounds the zone.  Facing off against Jamie Moyer should make this for an interesting game but I think that the Pirates will win this win, and yes this is the first time I am picking against Jamie Moyer so far in 2012.

Pick: Pirates

Royals (Sanchez) vs Indians (Lowe)

I think ghat the Kansas City Royals are thrilled to go out on the road and play somewhere other than Kauffman Stadium.  The Indians swept Kansas City earlier this year and Kansas City is slumping like nobodies business.  So who I am predicting in this game?  The Kansas City Royals.  A change of scenery will re-energize this team and get them the win today.

Pick: Royals

Mariners (Vargas) vs Tigers (Scherzer)

The Mariners offense is horrendous and they know the will need to score some runs against this Tigers team.  Jason Vargas has struggled at Comerica Park and Max Scherzer is 4-0 with an ERA of 2.00 against Seattle.    Plus the Mariners are on a 4-game losing streak.  You add all those ingredients together and what comes out is a tasty lock of the day.  Tigers win.

Pick: Tigers. This is my lock of the day.

Blue Jays (Alvarez) vs Orioles (Hunter)

The Blue Jays have had a lot of success in recent years at Camden Yards (Although who hasn't to be honest) and now head there after a sweep of the Kansas City Royals.  Henderson Alvarez is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in his career against Baltimore and I predict that the young flame-thrower will keep it up and win this game for Toronto.

Pick: Blue Jays

Angels (Santana) vs Rays (Price)

Alber Pujols is still struggling at the plate and it is not expected to get any easier as he now is facing David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays.  Price started the all-star game for the American League last year and he has picked up right where he left off, starting 2-1.  I predict he will get to 3-1 and Tampa Bay will beat Los Angeles in the opener today.

Pick: Rays

Marlins (Johnson) vs Mets (Santana)

This is a matchup of 2 opening day starters that are looking for their first win of 2012.  Both Josh Johnson and Johan Santana missed most of last year and are trying to regain their all-star form of previous years.  This game is also note-worthy because Jose Reyes is making his return to Queens.  I am going to say that Santana out-pitches Johnson and the Mets get the win.

Pick: Mets

Giants (Cain) vs Reds (Latos)

These are 2 pitchers that are going in opposite directions.  Matt Cain has gone back to back games with 9 innings pitched and allowing 2 hits or fewer.  Mat Latos is struggling with his new team, going 0-2 with an ERA over 8.  I don't think he will pitch that bad today but with the way Matt Cain is pitching right now it is hard to pick against him.  So I won't.  Giants win.

Pick: Giants

Yankees (Kuroda) vs Rangers (Darvish)

This game features 2 Japanese pitches squaring off as Hiroki Kuroda and Yu Darvish are both going to try and shut down these prolific offenses.  Darvish has settled down since that rough first inning and actually looks pretty good, if his control is there.  I like the Darvish and the Rangers to win, preventing their first losing streak of the season.

Pick: Rangers

Cardinals (Wainwright) vs Cubs (Samardzija)

Adam Wainwright has been the only dark spot for the Cardinals starting rotation this year as he looks to get back to full strength following Tommy John surgery.  The Cubs are countering with Jeff Samardzija and I am 0-3 in picking his starts this year.  I predict that Samrdzija gets the win as Wainwright continues to struggle.  Cubs win.  Cubs win.  Cubs win.

Pick: Cubs

Red Sox (Beckett) vs Twins (Blackburn)

The Red Sox finally got back on the winning side of things and yesterday and turn to Josh Beckett as the face Minnesota at Target Field.  They are going up against Nick Blackburn who has had much success against them in his career.  I predict that his success against  Boston will continue and the Twins will win even the series against Boston today.

Pick: Twins

Astros (Norris) vs Brewers (Wolf)

This is a match-up that could feature a lot of offense, as both Bud Norris and Randy Wolf like to give up runs.  Wolf in particular has given up a lot of runs this year and is winless so far in 2012.  I predict that he stays winless as Houston wins today.  I'm picking Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Minnesota, and Houston all in one day.  You don't see that every day and probably won't again for the remainder of the year.

Pick: Astros

Phillies (Worley) vs Diamondbacks (Collmenter)

In a match-up just on pitchers Vance Worley has vastly out-pitched Josh Collmenter this year.  Fortunately for the Diamondbacks this game involves offenses too, something of which Philadelphia hasn't shown much of this year.  I do think that today the Phillies get the win behind the pitching of Worley, but it won't be by much and they won't score a lot of runs.

Pick: Phillies

White Sox (Floyd) vs Athletics (Milone)

Does anyone want to pick against the Chicago White Sox right now?  I sure don't.  The White Sox are playing great baseball and I look for it to continue tonight behind the starting pitching of Gavin Floyd.  White Sox win.

Pick: White Sox

Nationals (Gonzalez) vs Padres (Richard)

The Nationals are another team that is getting outstanding starting pitching, and facing a team like the Padres will make them look even better.  The Padres can't hit very well.  The Nationals pitch very well.  I like Gio Gonzalez to continue to pitch well and shut down this hapless lineup as Washington wins the opener of the series.

Pick: Nationals

Braves (Minor) vs Dodgers (Harang)

This game truly is a toss-up for me.  Both offenses are quality and both pitchers do just enough to win games for their respective teams.  In a game like this you have to take what is the bes tplayer on the field and roll with it.  Without a doubt right now that would be Matt Kemp, who is on pace for 276 hits, 86 home runs and 210 RBIs.  I am going to roll with Kemp and the Dodgers today.

Pick: Dodgers
