4-25 Predictions

Full slate of games today.  16 When you factor in the doubleheader between the Rockies and the Pirates.  Lets get to it.

Rockies (Nicasio) vs Pirates (McDonald)          Game 1

Game 1 of the doubleheader today is a tough one to call.  Neither pitcher is very good and neither offense is really that good either.  I don't really see a distinct advantage in pitching and I do see that Colorado is better offensively so I am going to say that Colorado wins the opener on the strength of being better offensively.

Pick: Rockies

Rockies (Chacin) vs Pirates (Morton)          Game 2

This game the Pirates have a pitching advantage.  Charlie Morton is a much better pitcher then he is given credit for, he just gets no run support.  Pirates win game 2 and split the doubleheader.

Pick: Pirates

Astros (Happ) vs Brewers (Marcum)

The Milwaukee Brewers offense is finally staring to come together.  All it took was a trip to Houston to do that.  Milwaukee looks for its twelfth straight win in a row over Houston and to sweep the series today, and with their offense rounding into shape and Shaun Marcum pitching they will get it.  Marcum went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA against Houston last year and will continue that success today.

Pick: Brewers

Cardinals (Lynn) vs Cubs (Volstad)

Lance Lynn has been white hot and I have been riding the wave in picking him in every start so far this year. Why stop now?  He is facing a Cubs offense that isn't very good and he looks to improve to 4-0 this year.  The Cardinals will be in quite a quandary when Chris Carpenter comes back from the disabled list, as Lynn is definitely pitching well enough to keep his rotation spot.

Pick: Cardinals

White Sox (Sale) vs Athletics (Parker)

Top prospect Jarrod Parker makes his Major League debut for the Oakland Athletics today as they look to win the series against the White Sox.  Parker was the main piece the Athletics received in trading Trevor Cahill to the Diamondbacks, and I think he will be worth it in the long run.  However Chris Sale is a very good pitcher and I think that the White Sox will get the win today, but Parker will look good.

Pick: White Sox

Phillies (Hamels) vs Diamondbacks (Cahill)

Speaking of Trevor Cahill, the Diamondbacks pitcher will be locked in a pitchers duel today with Cole Hamels as Arizona looks to win the series against Philadelphia.  Both Hamels and Cahill are good pitchers and both are facing offenses that are missing their 2 best hitters.  I expect this to be a low-scoring affair with Hamels and the Phillies coming out on top.

Pick: Phillies

Nationals (Zimmerman) vs Padres (Weiland)

Washington continues to churn out quality starts and now turn to the one starting pitcher that hasn't gotten a win.  Jordan Zimmerman is 0-1 this year but has an ERA of 1.29 and just hasn't gotten any run support so far.  He won't need much though as the Padres offense is abysmal.  Zimmerman will get his first win as the Nationals win today.

Pick: Nationals

Royals (Hochevar) vs Indians (Jiminez)

I know that Kansas City will win a game at some point today.  It won't be today.  I honestly feel a little guilty about doing this but Ubaldo and the Indians are my lock of the day.  The Royals just don't look good at all right now and Ubaldo is pitching well.  Indians win and the Royals continue their losing streak, will reach 13 games now.

Pick: Indians.  This is my lock of the day.

Mariners (Hernandez) vs Tigers (Wilk)

I find myself in a dilemma with this game.  On one hand we have Felix Hernandez, who is pitching lights out and just hasn't gotten any runs to show for it.  On the other hand we have the Detroit Tigers offense, who is far superior to the Mariners.  Hmmm.... Decisions decisions.  Who am I kidding I am going with Felix.  Mariners win.

Pick: Mariners

Blue Jays (Drabek) vs Orioles (Hammell)

Baltimore looks to continue their early season success against Toronto as they continue a 3-game set at Camden Yards.  The Orioles have now won 3 out of 4 games so far against Toronto, and they send Jason Hammell to the mound to make it 4 out of 5.  I do not think they get it as I predict that Kyle Drabek will shut down Baltimore's offense and get the win.

Pick: Blue Jays

Angels (Wilson) vs Rays (Hellickson)

This should be a great pitchers duel as C.J Wilson and Jeremy Hellickson battle it out in Tampa Bay.  Hellickson looks to continue the struggles of star first baseman Albert Pujols, who is pressing and thereby is not doing much to help his team.  I predict that Hellickson will outpitch Wilson and Tampa Bay will win again.

Pick: Rays

Marlins (Buehrle) vs Mets (Dickey)

The New York Mets spoiled the return of Jose Reyes to Queens as they won 2-1 in extra innings yesterday.  Now Miami sends Mark Buehrle to the mound, who is coming off of his best performance of the year.  I like the Marlins to win this game and if I am right I will have a 4 game winning streak involving the Mets.  After starting 2-12 in predicting their games I would be ecstatic with a 4 game streak.

Pick: Marlins

Giants (Zito) vs Reds (Arroyo)

Both Bronson Arroyo and Barry Zito are enjoying resurgences in 2012 and now they face each other, with both looking to continue to pitch well.  Zito in particular has been a pleasant surprise for the Giants as he has done nothing to justify his big contract and all of a sudden is pitching like he is worth every penny.  The Reds have beaten the Giants the last 6 times at The Great American Ball Park, and they will make it 7 as they win today.

Pick: Reds

Yankees (Hughes) vs Rangers (Feldman)

Phil Hughes vs that lineup?  That is all I need to say.  Rangers win.

Pick: Rangers

Red Sox (Buchholz) vs Twins (Hendricks)

The Red Sox haven't swept a series since last July, and that is exactly what they are trying to do as they send Clay Buchholz to the mound against the Twins.  Boston also hasn't swept a series in Minnesota since 2000, so they have a lot working against them.  I think that all of these streaks will continue as Minnesota wins today behind the pitching of Liam Hendricks.

Pick: Twins

Braves (Beachy) vs Dodgers (Lilly)

Brandon Beachy and Ted Lilly have both been outstanding, both have an ERA under 1, so runs could be scarce tonight as the Dodgers host the Braves.  I am going to go with the Dodgers here because Atlanta has a lefty heavy lineup and Ted Lilly is good against left handed hitters.  Dodgers win to take the series, but it will be another close low scoring game.

Pick: Dodgers
