4-15 Predictons

My first baseball game in person of the year was everything I remembered and then some.  I just hope all the games I go to are this fun.  Alright prediction time.

Orioles (Matusz) vs Blue Jays (Drabek)

The Orioles have not swept Toronto at the Rogers Centre in 9 years and that is exactly what Brian Matusz is going for today.  The Blue Jays are giving the ball to Kyle Drabek, who was stellar in his first start of 2012.  I predict that the Orioles are still looking for that sweep as the Blue Jays win this game and salvage part of the series.

Pick: Blue Jays

Astros (Happ) vs Marlins (Sanchez)

Ozzie Guillen is still serving his 5-game suspension for his remarks about Fidel Castro, and it must have been hard to see his team lose the lead like they did last night.  Now the marlins send Anibal Sanchez to the mound to try and win the series against the Astros.  He is 3-1 with a 2.38 ERA in his career against the Astros and he will continue his success and the Marlins will win.

Pick: Marlins

Reds (Leake) vs Nationals (Detwiler)

The Nationals continued an excellent run of starting pitching to open the season as they beat the Reds last night 3-1.  With a healthy Stephen Strausburg and new additions Edwin Jackson and Gio Gonzalez this team has a formidable threesome.  Now they turn to Ross Detwileer, who is trying to get the Nationals first four game sweep of the Reds in 23 years.  I think they get it today.

Pick: Nationals

Brewers (Narveson) vs Braves (Beachy)

Milwaukee looks to avoid the sweep of the series by the Braves today as left hander Chris Narveson faces youngster Brandon Beachy.  Even though the Braves beat a left hander in the opening game of the series they struggle against them.  I like the Brewers to avoid the sweep here as Narveson shuts down the Braves and the Brewers get just enough offense to win.

Pick: Brewers

Mets (Pelfrey) vs Phillies (Hamels)

With both Ryan Howard and Chase Utley out due to injury the Phillies offense is struggling mightily.  Add that to the fact that Cole Hamels struggles more against the Mets than any other team in baseball and I predict that the Mets get the sweep of the Phillies today.

Pick: Mets

Rays (Moore) vs Red Sox (Doubront)

Tampa Bay is looking to avoid its first 4 game losing steak since starting the 2011 season 0-6, and they are sending out the right person to do it.  Rookie phenom Matt Moore goes for Tampa Bay and is looking to continue his early season success.  I think he shuts down the high octane Red Sox offense and the Rays avoid the sweep.

Pick: Rays

Indians (Jiminez) vs Royals (Mendoza)

I guess when your offense is struggling to score runs all you need to do is face the Kansas City Royals and it will get turned around in no time.  The Indians offense was putrid in starting 1-3 but the last 2 games has made this offense look like the '27 Yankees.  The Indians now send Ubaldo Jiminez to the mound to go for the sweep and they wll get it.

Pick: Indians

Tigers (Porcello) vs White Sox (Sale)

Both of these pitchers were outstanding in their first start of 2012 and I think both pitchers will have breakout years.  That being said only winner can come out of today's game and I predict it will be the Tigers. I think that the Tigers will avoid the sweep as they will finally scratch a few runs across and that is all Porvello will need.

Pick: Tigers

Rangers (Feliz) vs Twns (Hendriks)

The Rangers are going for the first series sweep in Minnesota since 2001 and are sending Neftali Feliz to the mound.  Feliz looked lights out in his first start against the Mariners, after closing for the last 2 years for Texas.  Now he faces a lineup that has Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, and little else.  I think the Rangers get that sweep and Feliz keeps rollin.

Pick: Rangers

Cubs (Maholm) vs Cardinals (Westbrook)

If previous starts are any indication the Cardinals should roll in this one.  Paul Maholm struggled for the Cubs and Jake Westbrook was money and now they oppose each other.  Westbrook and the Cardinals will win tonight, even without Lance Berkman and David Freese, as they take the first series of the year against their long time rivals.

Pick: Cardinals

Dianmondbacks (Cahill) vs Rockies (Pomeranz)

Pomeranz was the prize of the Rockies when they traded Ubaldo Jiminez and now he makes his first start of the year.  Pomeranz is going to be a very good pitcher in this league for a long time, and my prediction is that by September everyone will know who he is.  I also think the Rockies fleeced Cleveland in that trade.  Look for Pomeranz to come out firing and lead the Rockies to victory.

Pick: Rockies

Pirates (Correia) vs Giants (Vogelsong)

Ryan Vogelsong comes off of the diabled list today to try and help the Giants sweep the Pirates.  With the way the Pirates is offense is going to start the year this is the perfect team to get back into the swing of things against.  The Pirates offense has been down right awful this year and even though I don't think Vogelsong is that good I still think the Giants win because the Pirates offense is that bad.

Pick: Giants

Athletics (Godfrey) vs Mariners (Beavan)

We have the first game where Yoenis Cespedes did not strike out yesterday.  He still has 13 in 9 games and is well on his way to 200.  Blake Beavan is pitching for the Mariners and he pitched great in his first start of 2012.  He only gave up one run against the high powered Texas Rangers but the Mariners did nothing against Neftali Feliz and lost 1-0.  I think the Mariners get on the board today and Beavan gets the win.

Pick: Mariners

Padres (Volquez) vs Dodgers (Kershaw)

Clayton Kershaw plus the Dodgers against the Padres equals the lock of the day.  Even though the a few aces have struggled this year I think kershaw still dominates the light hitting Padres.  Matt Kemp will continue to  rake for the Dodgers and they will win easy.

Pick: Dodgers. This is my lock of the day.

Angels (Williams) vs Yankees (Nova)

Ivan Nova looks to continue his own personal winning streak as the Yankees look to take the series from the Angels.  Nova hasn't lost since June 3 of last year, but that defeat was to the Angels.  I predict that his streak keeps going and the Yankees win.

Pick:  Yankees

  1. I'm happy to see your lock of the day worked out in the end. What do you think? Was that triple play legit in the 9th? I can't believe how close SD came to winning that game.
