5-16 Predictions

Need to have every day over .500 from here on out.  It started yesterday and will continue today.  Here we go.

Dodgers (Capuano) vs Padres (Richard)

The Dodgers have won 6 out of 7 games against the Padres this year and send out Chris Capuano to the mound today, who is 5-0 so far this year.  This Dodgers team is full of surprises and Capuano has to be the biggest one.  I think that the Ddogers will continue their mastery of the Padres and Capuano will improve his record to 6-0.

Pick: Dodgers

Twins (Blackburn) vs Tigers (Porcello)

The Minnesota Twins are now going to their own personal hell, as they are 2-17 the last 2 seasons at Comerica Park.  Even having Justin Morneau back in the lineup won't help this team that much and Rick Porcello will get the win for the Tigers.  Detroit will use the Twins as a springboard to finally live up to expectations.

Pick: Tigers

Pirates (Bedard) vs Nationals (Gonzalez)

These 2 teams are similar in that they both rely on their pitching staffs since their respective offenses have trouble scoring runs.  The main difference is the Nationals rotation is better than the Pirates and the lineup is better as well.  Because of those facts and because Gio Gonzalez has been masterful at home this year, I am going with the Nationals to win.

Pick: Nationals

Mariners (Hernandez) vs Indians (Jiminez)

I think I have incorrectly predicted the last 10 Mariners games.  That is not good.  The Mariners are scuffling and the Indians are surging.  So why am I picking the Mariners to win?  Name me the last time Felix Hernandez lost consecutive starts.  Didn't think you could.  It has been a long time and that drought will continue as the Mariners will win.

Pick: Mariners

Yankees (Kuroda) vs Blue Jays (Drabek)

The Yankees bullpen is in complete shambles right now.  First Mariano Rivera goes down and now David Robertson is on the disabled list.  Rafael Soriano now takes over the closer role for the Yankees, a role of which he is comfortable with having closed in Tampa Bay.  As far as this game goes Hiroki Kuroda is pitching very well right now and I think that will continue.

Pick: Yankees

Red Sox (Buchholz) vs Rays (Hellickson)

Clay Buchholz has a 4-1 record but has an ERA over 8.  The Red Sox must score a lot of runs for him when he is starting.  Now they are facing a quality pitcher in Jeremy Hellickson.  I think that Hellickson will pitch better than Buchholz and the Rays will win against their American League East rivals, which would stop a 5-game winning streak for the Red Sox.

Pick: Rays

Reds (Leake) vs Mets (Santana)

Mike Leake has become one of my whipping boys, and will continue to be so until he wins a game.  Combine that with the fact that Johan Santana is money against the Cincinnati Reds and I am going to go with the New York Mets on this one.  In fact this is my lock of the day.

Pick: Mets.  This is my lock of the day.

Marlins (Buerhle) vs Braves (Minor)

Both Mark Buerhle and Mike Minor have 2 wins. The difference is Buerhle has more losses and a better ERA because Minor has gotten much more run support so far this year than Buerhle has.  Buerhle has been pitching far better than Minor as of late and I think that trend will continue as the Miami Marlins will win this game today.

Pick: Marlins

Brewers (Wolf) vs Astros (Norris)

The Houston Astros are starting to play like everyone predicted them too, losing 4 games in a row.  Seeing Randy Wolf might not help them get back on track either.  For some reason Wolf has had a lot of success in his career against the Astros and I think that will continue today as the Brewers get the win and the Astros losing streak reaches 5.

Pick: Brewers

Athletics (Milone) vs Rangers (Darvish)

Yu Darvish will absolutely dominate this lineup.  That is all.

Pick: Rangers

Phillies (Kendrick) vs Cubs (Garza)

Matt Garza has been fantastic against the Phillies in his career and he looks to continue that streak in the opener of this series at Wrigley Field today.  Garza is 2-1 against the Phillies but owns an ERA of .96 so as long as the Cubs score a couple of runs they will win.  Since the Cubs are going against a struggling Kyle Kendrick they will score some runs and will win this game.

Pick: Cubs

Orioles (Hunter) vs Royals (Paulino)

The Kansas City Royals took care of one division leader in spanking the Texas Rangers the last 2 days and now they welcome another division leader in the Baltimore Orioles.  With the way the Royals have been playing lately this is going to be an interesting series.  Both teams were supposed to be in the cellar of their respective divisions but they are doing alright.  I am picking the Royals to keep their momentum going and get the win.

Pick: Royals

Diamondbacks (Corbin) vs Rockies (Moyer)

Jamie Moyer has been pitching like he is 49, as he is struggling mightily.  Facing a power hitting team like the Arizona Diamondbacks in the thin air in Colorado will not make it any easier for him.  The Diamondbacks are coming off of a victory in Los Angeles and they will make it 2 wins in a row as they get to Moyer and the Rockies today.

Pick: Rockies

White Sox (Floyd) vs Angels (Williams)

With Albert Pujols starting to turn his average around the little bit the Angels are starting to win some games.  The Angels have already been shut out 8 time this year, and that is with an offense that was supposed to do a lot of heavy lifting.  They are still getting quality starting pitching and will get another good outing from Jerome Williams tonight as they continue their march to .500.

Pick: Angels

Cardinals (Garcia) vs Giants (Bumgarner)

Madison Bumgarner is on the hill for the San Francisco Giants which means I am picking them.  Bumgarner has been fantastic all year and has been even better at home so far this year.  With the St. Louis Cardinals coming into town Bumgarner will have his hands full but nothing this kid can't handle.  He is the real deal and is fun to watch.

Pick: Giants
