5-21 Predictions

The brief Interleague weekend is now over and done with.  It will be back soon but now its American League vs American League and National League vs National League.

Red Sox (Buchholz) vs Orioles (Hunter)

Clay Buchholz has a 4-2 record but has an ERA over 7 as the Red Sox have scored a lot of runs for him.  Now Boston faces a team it has struggled against so far this year.  I think that Buchholz will continue to give up runs and the Baltimore Orioles will win this game today.  The Orioles offense will do the damage and Adam Jones will be in the middle of it.

Pick: Orioles

Royals (Paulino) vs Yankees (Kuroda)

Hiroki Kuroda has been a much better pitcher at Yankee Stadium this year and facing the Royals should only help his numbers improve.  Kuroda has all 3 of his wins at home, will continue to pitch well at home, and will get his fourth win of the year today.  The Kansas City Royals are better on the road than they are at home but they will lose to the Yankees today.

Pick: Yankees

Mets (Santana) vs Pirates (Bedard)

Both Johan Santana and Erik Bedard have less than stellar records that is due mainly to the fact that their respective offenses do not score any runs for them.  This is gong to be another low scoring affair that will go the way of every other game the Pirates have played this year.  I think that the New York Mets will pull out a victory today against Bedard and the Pirates.

Pick: Mets

Nationals (Gonzalez) vs Phillies (Kendrick)

Gio Gonzalez has enjoyed pitching in the National League and now faces a National League rival in the Philadelphia Phillies.  There is certainly some bad blood between these 2 teams as Cole Hamels hit Bryce Harper and then admitted he did it on purpose.  I like the Nationals to win a hotly contested game and I won't be surprised if a pitcher is thrown out of this game for throwing at someone.

Pick: Nationals

Braves (Minor) vs Reds (Leake)

I am picking against Mike Leake until he wins a game.  In fact this is my lock.

Pick: Braves.  This is my lock of the day.

Rockies (Moyer) vs Marlins (Buerhle)

The Marlins are playing good baseball right now and the Rockies were just swept by the Mariners.  Talk about 2 teams going in opposite directions.  Now you have 49 year old Jamie Moyer trying to stop the bleeding for the Rockies, which I do not see happening.  I think that Buerhle and the Marlins keep the Rockies on their slide and win today.

Pick: Marlins

Blue Jays (Drabek) vs Rays (Hellickson)

Jeremy Hellickson takes his unblemished record against Kyle Drabek and the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a series in St. Petersburg.  Tampa Bay has lost 3 of 4 since Hellickson's last start, but giving him the ball usually is a good way to get a win.  I think that Hellickson and the Rays will get the win today and snap of their brief skid.

Pick: Rays

Cubs (Garza) vs Astros (Norris)

Bud Norris has won his last starts but going against Matt Garza and the Cubs might pose a problem for him. Garza has pitched great all year and he is unquestionably the ace of this Cubs staff right now.  I look for both pitchers to continue their run of success but for Garza to pitch a little bit better than Norris and get the win today.

Pick: Cubs

Giants (Bumgarner) vs Brewers (Wolf)

Madison Bumgarner is still my guy.  I think he is a much better pitcher than Randy Wolf.  He has struggles his last 2 starts but he will get back in the win column today as the Giants will win the opener of their series against the Brewers.  Bumgarner won't need much run support because he is going to come out blazing and overwhelm the Brewers lineup.

Pick: Giants

Padres (Richard) vs Cardinals (Garcia)

The St. Louis Cardinals come into Petco Park having just been swept by the Dodgers, and are now only .5 games in front of the Reds.  They are going to come into this game mad and will come out firing on all cylinders.  Even without Lance Berkman, the Cardinals will get back in the win column today with the help of Jaime Garcia and a pathetic Padres offense.

Pick: Cardinals

Dodgers (Capuano) vs Diamondbacks (Corbin)

The Los Angeles Dodgers are hot once again and now they send out Chris Capuano, who is pitching like he is the reigning Cy Young winner and not teammate Clayton Kershaw.  Capuano looks to improve to 6-1 this year and I think that he will get it by beating the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight.  Even without Matt Kemp this team isn't missing a beat and that will continue.

Pick: Dodgers

Angels (Williams) vs Athletics (Milone)

The Angels have had a rough time against the Athletics this year and it won't get any easier facing 5-game winner Tommy Milone in the opener of another series today.  These 2 teams have already played 6 times this year with the Athletics going 4-2 and they will make it 5-2 as Milone will get win #6 and beat the Angels today.

Pick: Athletics

Rangers (Darivsh) vs Mariners (Hernandez)

This is a tough game for me.  I usually never pick against Felix but Darvish is pitching like he will win Rookie of the Year for sure.  The Mariners usually struggle against the Rangers but are coming off a rare road sweep.  Since I have to pick someone I am going to say that the Texas rangers will continue their dominance over Felix and the Mariners tonight.

Pick:  Rangers
