5-8 Predictions

Alright we have a full slate of games today.  Need to keep going and have another day over .500.  Onto the predictions.

White Sox (Danks) vs Indians (Masterson)

Both John Danks and Justin Masterson are coming into this game not pitching the way they think they should.  Unfortunately for Danks, this is actually about as good as he is.  He just isn't a very good pitcher.  The Indians are still hot and they like facing John Danks, so I am going to take the Indians to beat the White Sox for the third time in 2 days.

Pick: Indians

Mets (Batista) vs Phillies (Blanton)

Miguel Batista is back in the starting rotation? Hahahaha.  That is high comedy.  No wonder why the Mets were predicted to be in last place.  I don't see anyway that Miguel Batista will pitch well enough to get a win.  Joe Blanton is off to the best start of his career for the Phillies, and now matches up against Batista.  I am going with the Phillies in this one.

Pick: Phillies

Rays (Shields) vs Yankees (Nova)

James Shields looks to become the first 6 game winner in the American League, and Ivan Nova looks to bounce back from his first loss in 9 months as the Rays and Yankees square off.  I like the Rays in this one because Shields is pitching out of his mind right now and has already beaten the Yankees once this year.  Plus I am still in the camp that thinks Ivan Nova isn't that good of a pitcher.

Pick: Rays

Rangers (Felix) vs Orioles (Arrieta)

The Texas Rangers are now back on the right track after dominating the Orioles yesterday.  The Orioles were decimated because of the 17 inning game the day before.  Now they are sending Jake Arrieta to the mound to try and even up the series.  I don't think it will happen.  My prediction is that the Rangers will keep winning.

Pick: Rangers

Nationals (Jackson) vs Pirates (Burnett)

If the Pirates are going to win a game in this series it will be the opener against Edwin Jackson.  That is because Jackson is the only starter for the Nationals who has an ERA  over 2.5.  I actually like the Pirates in this one because I think A.J Burnett will outpitch Edwin Jackson.  With both offenses struggling I think the Pirates win a low scoring game.

Pick: Pirates

Braves (Delgado) vs Cubs (Dempster)

Ryan Dempster is going today for the Cubs and he reminds me of Tim Hudson.  Both pitchers have been in the league forever and both know how to win.  Dempster is a tough-minded bulldog and I think that he will get the win today.  The Cubs will get to Randall Delgado a little today and Dempster will shut down the Braves offense.

Pick: Cubs

Marlins (Sanchez) vs Astros (Rodriguez)

The Marlins won their seventh straight game yesterday to get over .500 for the first time this year.  It helps that they have been playing the Padres and the Astros, but they are still winning the games they should.  Anibal Sanchez is off to the best start of his career so far and I think this will continue today.  The Marlins win their eighth in a row today.

Pick: Marlins

Angles (Haren) vs Twins (Diamond)

Seeing the Minnesota Twins is exactly what the doctor ordered against most teams so far this year.  Now it is the Angels turn as they try and get their fourth consecutive victory and inch closer to .500.  Dan Haren is looking to get that fourth straight win and he is matched up against Scott Diamond, who is making his 2012 debut.  I like the Angels to get that fourth straight win.

Pick: Angels

Red Sox (Bard) vs Royals (Duffy)

Here we are in the second week of May and the Kansas City Royals still have only won 2 games at home this year.  One of the two wins for the Royals was Danny Duffy in his last start defeating the New York Yankees.  I like him to beat the Red Sox again today and the Royals will get their third home win of the year.

Pick: Royals

Reds (Bailey) vs Brewers (Gallardo)

The Milwaukee Brewers are still struggling right now but going against a pitcher with the name Homer might help them get a win.  Yovani Gallardo is trying to get back on track and I think that he will do that today.  I like the Brewers to win this game and stop their 3-game losing streak that they are currently on.

Pick: Brewers

Cardinals (Westbrook) vs Diamondbacks (Kennedy)

Ian Kennedy hasn't lost a game at home in almost a year and now he is facing a team in St. Louis that is been hitting the cover off the ball.  It will be an interesting matchup between the Cardinals offense and Ian Kennedy. Jake Westbrook is doing well this year, but  I like Kennedy to continue his home winning streak and get the win over the Cardinals today.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Rockies (White) vs Padres (Suppan)

Both of these pitchers were nowhere to be seen in 2011.  Suppan was out of baseball and Alex White was in the minors.  Now these 2 face off at Petco Park.  I think because of the park and the ineptitude of the Padres offense it will be a relatively low scoring game, and I think that the Rockies will win because of the better offense.

Pick: Rockies

Blue Jays (Romero) vs Athletics (Parker)

This is a tough game to predict for me.  I think Ricky Romero is a great pitcher, but I am also really high on Jarrod Parker*.  He has looked really good in his first 2 starts of his major league career.  I am going to go with experience on this one and say Romero will get the win and hand Parker his first loss of his young but promising career.

*The Athletics have decided to give Jarrod Parker an extra day off so the ball goes to Brandon McCarthy instead.  Still sticking with the same pick of Romero and the Blue Jays.

Pick: Blue Jays

Tigers (Verlander) vs Mariners (Millwood)

The only reason I can see that there is hope for the Mariners is that Verlander hasn't pitched well at Safeco Field and the Mariners are 4-0 against the Tigers this year, and the results are improving since they benched Chone Figgins and.... Who am I kidding it is still Justin Verlander against this offense.  The Tigers get their first win against the Mariners in 5 tries tonight.

Pick: Tigers

Giants (Vogelsong) vs Dodgers (Kershaw)

I am going to once again ride the horse that is Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers will be my lock of the day.  Kershaw has pitched well this year and I am undefeated when picking the Dodgers for lock status so why deviate from that.  If it ain't broke don't fix it, am I right?

Pick: Dodgers.  This is my lock of the day.
