5-7 Predictions

After a great weekend prediction wise and getting 40 games over .500 for the first time it is time to keep this momentum going.  We got 13 games today including a doubleheader between the Indians and the White Sox.  Let's get to it!

White Sox (Humber) vs Indians (McAllister)       Game 1

Ever since Phillip Humber threw that perfect game against the Mariners he has been pitching like, well Phillip Humber.  He has gotten rocked his last 2 starts and he now is facing a Cleveland team that is starting to find his stroke.  Zach McAllister is making his 2012 debut today for the Indians, and I am picking him to get the win because I honestly don't trust Humber.

Pick: Indians

White Sox (Stults) vs Indians (Tomlin)          Game 2

Game 2 is the exact opposite of game 1.  The White Sox are throwing the rookie and the Indians are having the pitcher who doesn't have great numbers.  Since that is the reason why I picked the Indians in game 1 that has to be the reason why I am picking the White Sox in game 2.

Pick: White Sox

Mets (Niese) vs Phillies (Halladay)

Roy Halladay has looked human this year for the Phillies.  What they need today is a vintage Roy Halladay performance to get back to .500 and get out of the cellar.  Halladay is matched up against Jonathon Niese and I think that he will bounce back with a vintage Halladay performance and the Phillies will get the win today.

Pick: Phillies

Rangers (Harrison) vs Orioles (Matusz)

This will be a good test for the Orioles.  Playing a team like the Rangers will show everyone if Baltimore is for real, or if they are playing above their heads right now.  I do think this team is better than I gave them credit for in the offseason, but I also think that the Rangers are one of the better teams in all of baseball.  I think Texas wins the opener here.

Pick: Rangers

Braves (Hanson) vs Cubs (Samardzija)

Atlanta has been tearing the cover off the ball lately and they are a season high 8 games over .500 to show for it.  They are in a battle with the Nationals right now, and Washington has been doing it with pitching, not hitting.  The Braves have a tough task today in getting to Jeff Samardzija, but I think they will score enough to get the win today.

Pick: Braves

Marlins (Zambrano) vs Astros (Rodriguez)

The Marlins finally got to .500 after winning their sixth straight game last night and sweeping the Padres.  Now they head to Houston where Carlos Zambrano has had a lot of success in his career.  Zambrano is still looking for his first win of the year and he will get it today.  I know I have said that his last few starts but today will be the day.

Pick; Marlins

Angels (Weaver) vs Twins (Liriano)

In his last start Weaver no hit the Twins.  Now he gets to pitch against them again?  Can you say lock of the day.

Pick: Angels. This is my lock of the day.

Red Sox (Doubront) vs Royals (Sanchez)

The Red Sox are in last place all by themselves and the primary reason for this is because they can't pitch.  The starting rotation hasn't been effective and the bullpen has been overworked.  Now they go to Kansas City and face a Royals team that is playing better of late.  I like the Royals to win the opener here and keep the Red Sox reeling.

Pick: Royals

Reds (Arroyo) vs Brewers (Gallardo)

The Milwaukee Brewers are struggling to keep players healthy and now they face Bronson Arroyo, who is off to one of the best starts of his career.  Cincinnati has been playing better baseball of late and the Brewers are struggling right now, so I will take the Reds to win this game.

Pick: Reds

Cardinals (Lynn) vs Diamondbacks (Saunders)

Lance Lynn has a tough job in front of him as he tries to become the first 6-game winner in baseball.  That is because Joe Saunders actually has a lower ERA than Lynn, although he doesn't have the wins to show for it.  As a charter member of the Lance Lynn fan club, I am going to go with my boy here, although I don't think many runs will be scored.

Pick: Cardinals

Rockies (Pomeranz) vs Padres (Volquez)

I am going to go with Edinson Volquez in this one.  Even though Drew Pomeranz is one of my boys I just think that Volquez has been pitching well and deserves to get a win.  Now that he isn't facing Matt Cain or Roy Halladay he has a better shot.  I think the Padres can score a couple runs against the Rockies, and that is what they will need.

Pick: Padres

Tigers (Fister) vs Mariners (Beavan)

Doug Fister makes his return from the disabled list and his first start is against a team he knows pretty well.  Fister was traded from the Mariners to the Tigers last year, and now makes his first start against his former team.  My prediction here is that Fister will come out firing and the Mariners offense won't know what to do.  Tigers win.

Pick: Tigers

Giants (Zito) vs Dodgers (Lilly)

These long time rivals face off for the first time this year, and both are sending out pitchers that are exceeding expectations so far in 2012.  Both Ted Lilly and Barry Zito have an ERA under 2 so runs will be scarce today.  This would be a game I would love to be at, 2 natural rivals with pitchers throwing well.  Every play is going to mean a little more because one run could win.  My pick today is that the Giants will be one play better and win today.

Pick: Giants
