The Dodgers won today behind the pitching of Chris Capuano, who improved to 4-0 and now has the best record for any starter on the Dodger staff. He has a better record then Clayton Kershaw and Chad Billingsley. Capuano also got the big hit for the Dodgers, hitting a 2-run double to help out his own cause and lead the Dodgers to victory.
Nationals 7 Phillies 1 (Win)
The Nationals definitely got better hitting than the Phillies today, and they got better starting pitching as well. Gio Gonzalez looked good again today and the Nationals took another game from Philadelphia. The Nationals outhit the Phillies 15-5 and Jayson Werth, Ian Desmond, and Chad Tracy all hit home runs as Washington finally scored some runs for one of their starters.
Orioles 8 Red Sox 2 (Win)
The logic was sound. Picking the Orioles because they are playing better than the Red Sox right now really paid off, since I got the win. Normally when looking at these teams the Red Sox are the choice, but Boston is an absolute mess right now and the Orioles are playing good baseball. It's still early but I like what Showalter has done so far.
Mets 4 Diamondbacks 3 (Win)
Johan Santana got his first win of the year! He finally got enough offense to get him over the hump and in the win column for 2012. Santana went 7 innings and gave up 3 runs, and ran his pitch count to over 100. He finally looks to be back in form after missing all of last year, and this was his last remaining hurdle. Congrats Mr. Santana.
White Sox 3 Tigers 2 (Loss)
This was looking like another win for me with the White Sox holding a 1-run lead and Jose Valverde was in the game to close. With one runner on base Adam Dunn hit a ball that I still think is traveling. It easily cleared the right field fence and with that Jose Valverde had his second blown save of the year after not having any last year.
Giants 5 Brewers 2 (Win)
Madison Bumgarner continues to be the best player on my fantasy baseball team right now, and it isn't even close. He had another outstanding outing today as the Giants beat the Brewers to even the series at 1 game apiece. Ryan Braun did hit a home run in the losing effort, but it wasn't enough to beat Bumgarner and the Giants.
Pirates 3 Reds 2 (Win)
Gut you are right once again. James McDonald proved my stomach right as he had another quality start today to help the Pirates beat the Reds. Mike Leake did hold the Pittsburgh Pirates in check but the day belonged to McDonald and the Pirates. The Pirates bullpen continues to be successful and is helping the starting pitchers out immensely.
Astros 8 Cardinals 2 (Win)
Chris Johnson hit a grand slam for the Astros in the first inning off of Jaime Garcia, and that was all Bud Norris and the Houston Astros needed. They continue to creep up to .500 and they are doing it behind the strength of their pitching staff. Today it was Norris who got the quality start and help the Astros gain a game on the division leading Cardinals.
Rangers 5 Indians 2 (Loss)
Derek Lowe got 18 outs today and 16 were ground balls. He pitched well enough to win, but so did Derek Holland and the game came down to the bullpens. In the eleventh inning Adrian Beltre hit a 3-run home run that proved to be the difference in the game. Asdrubal Cabrera did have 4 hits for the Indians, but it was in a losing effort.
Royals 5 Yankees 1 (Loss)
Even though the 2 big stars for Kansas City still aren't hitting the ball, the games the Royals are winning are because of their pitching staff. Felipe Paulino pitched well in his first start of the year, and Hiroki Kuroda still struggles away from Yankee Stadium. At least tomorrow I get to pick against Phil Hughes. That always makes me happy.
Athletics 4 Rays 3 (Loss)
The Athletics finally ended the Tampa Bay streak, but it took 12 innings to do it. In the top of the twelfth inning Johnny Gomes hit a home run to break the tie and send the fans home unhappy. Now that the Rays have lost at home the hand is not as hot and picking against them makes sense. Til they go on another winning streak that is.
Braves 13 Rockies 9 (Loss)
The Rockies finally scored some runs for Jamie Moyer, scoring more for him in the first 2 innings than they had all season to that point. Unfortunately for Moyer and the Rockies, he couldn't hold the lead because the Braves came storming back. Easier to do in Colorado then some other places, but still coming back from a 6-run deficit is pretty impressive.
Marlins 4 Padres 1 (Win)
Well at least one of the big 3 did their job today. Heath Bell didn't pitch and Jose Reyes went 0-4, but Mark Buerhle threw a complete game for the Marlins, and they continue to pitch well against the National League West. I know that it is the Padres and they aren't very good, but a major league team is a major league team and Buerhle shut them down.
Angels 6 Blue Jays 2 (Win)
Albert Pujols might have been given the day off, but it was still the Angels offense that put on a show and helped C.J Wilson get the win. Mike Trout hit his first home run since he was called up from the minor leagues, and the Angels pounded out 13 hits to take care of the Blue Jays.
Mariners 7 Twins 0 (Win)
The Minnesota Twins offense looked awful against Felix Hernandez, which was exactly what I was counting on. Just three days after being no-hit by Jered Weaver the Twins could only get one off of Hernandez. The Mariners did scrounge together a couple of runs, with Kyle Seagar doing most of the damage. Seagar had a home run and 4 RBI's to lead the charge.
